I know business owners who think blogging is a waste of time. Truthfully it does take time. A good post needs to be thought about and ideally fit in with your marketing plan. Taking the time to plan your posts and developing a posting calendar will increase your success exponentially.
What does blogging do? Blogging offers a bunch of benefits:
Most websites allow you to add a blogging page. The other option is WordPress. I, personally don’t find WordPress to be user friendly (in spite of what they say). I do have a WordPress site. The biggest benefit of WordPress is that they are very tightly tied into Google, so if you do even a bit of SEO your site will have traction. This is not a small thing!
What is SEO, you ask. THAT is a very big thing (another post – later). Briefly stated it is the means by which folks that have an interest in your business can find you. The question is how do they do that? You should spend the time researching what people type into Google or any other search engine to find your type of business. Those words and phrases need to be included in your blog so that those that search can find.
What does blogging do? Blogging offers a bunch of benefits:
- You become an expert. Each blog you do that shares or teaches validates your expertise.
- You create interest in the topics you talk about. This is one way you teach your customers why they should care about what you do.
- By connecting your blog to your other social media properties you expand your reach and drive folks to your website.
- You can be using this to actually write a book. If you are thoughtful with your posts you can gather them up and publish them as a book – a great technique for busy people, and another way to gain credibility.
